Radara McHugh, a standout pitcher at UNC from 1998-2001 and one of the ACC's 50 greatest players, led her Akron Racers squad to a 5-4 win over the Chicago Bandits in the championship game of the National Pro Fastpitch playoffs. McHugh allowed just two hits and struck out seven over 4.2 innings to pick up the win.
Akron was the No. 2 seed in the playoffs after compiling a 36-10 record and finishing behind the top-seeded Bandits. McHugh entered the game in the fourth inning and outdueled Jennie Finch until Iyhia McMichael homered in the top of the eighth to give the Racers a 5-4 lead. McHugh then finished off the Bandits, stranding the tying run on second.
NPF is a professional women's fastpitch league made up of many former Olympians and college standouts.
