Carolina Men's Tennis Players Advance To Main Draw Of All-American Championships

TULSA, OKLA. - Benjamin Carlotti, Lenny Gullan and David Stone of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team all continued their outstanding play Wednesday in the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa as Carlotti advanced to the main draw in singles and Gullan and Stone moved on to the main draw in doubles.
Both Carlotti and the Gullan/Stone doubles tandem finished the qualifying tournament with 3-0 records, winning first, second and third round matches.
The wins allowed them to move on to the main draw which begins Thursday. Sixteen of the 64 singles players in the bracket earned their way in through the qualifying tournament and eight of the 32 doubles teams came out of the qualifying phase.
Gullan and Stone won their third round match Wednesday 8-4 over Chris Rea and Bram ten Berge of Mississippi. In the first round of the main draw Thursday the UNC tandem will play David Galic and Michal Kokta of Baylor at 7 p.m.
Carlotti, a Paris, France native and junior at UNC, captured his third round match in straight sets over Roy Sichel of Charlotte, the No. 9 seeded player in the qualifying singles draw. Carlotti will play in the first round of the main draw of 64 Thursday against Bojan Szumanski of Texas Tech at 11:30 a.m. Szumanski recieved one of the tournament's automatic bids.
Carlotti's win over Sichel came by a 6-3, 6-4 score.
The All-American Championships are one of the four tournaments in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's grand slam of college tennis.
