UNC alumni golfers completed their sweep of Duke in the third annual Carlyle Cup Team Championship Tuesday on Pinehurst No. 4. The Tar Heels wound up with 73 of a possible 120 points in the two-day, best ball event to reclaim the crystal Carlyle Cup bowl that Duke won in 2005.
Carolina had led 37-23 after completion of Monday's first round on Pinehurst No. 2. Each of the 20 daily better-ball matches was worth three points.
The full handicap event is open to all UNC alumni and Rams Club members and is sponsored by Carlyle & Co. jewelers, Pinehurst and Nike. Forty players from each school competed. Carolina's non-playing team captain was Johnny Cake, Director of Golf at UNC's Finley Golf Course.
