Tar Heel Men's Tennis Team Sweeps Tuesday Doubleheader

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina finished up a four-match homestand to open the 2007 men's tennis season by beating Howard 7-0 and Campbell 7-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels did not drop a set in sweeping the two matches and in the process improved to 4-0 as a team on the campaign.
In the opening match of the day, the Tar Heels won two matches by default and then swept the No. 1 through No. 5 singles matches while dropping only five games. Junior Tristan Heinrich got the start at No. 5 singles and beat Anthony Baldwin 6-1, 6-0. At No. 4, junior Karl Wishart bageled Stephen Surjue and No. 25-ranked Benjamin Carlotti pulled off the same trick at No. 1 singles against Faron Carter.
Against the Camels the Heels won the doubles point in an hour and then went on to win all six singles matches, clinching all in a period of 20 minutes. Carlotti against played well at No. 1, scoring a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Gabriel Delarve. Senior Sebastian Guejman played his first singles match of the season, beating Vasja Gorjup and winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.
Benjamin Carlotti, Stefan Hardy, Will Plyler and Taylor Fogleman both won two singles matches on the day.
UNC will hit the road for the first time this season as the Heels play at Rice Friday in Houston, Texas and then play a neutral site match Saturday versus Vanderbilt at the same site.
