CLEMSON, S.C. --- No. 13 North Carolina lost the doubles point for the first time in nearly a month and never recovered in a 6-1 women's tennis loss to No. 8 Clemson Sunday afternoon. The match was moved indoors after an hour due to inclement weather, and the Tigers won five of the six singles matches after that.
No. 11 Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long opened doubles play with a convincing 8-3 win over the No. 8 duo of Ani Mijacika and Federica van Adrichem at the No. 1 position. But the Lady Tigers (15-3, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) picked up wins at the other two positions to claim the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.
With Clemson taking five of six singles matches, the lone bright spot for Carolina (16-7, 4-3 ACC) was a 6-3, 6-1 win by No. 51 Sanaz Marand over Ina Hadziselimovic at No. 6.
The loss ends a six match road trip that saw the Tar Heels play away from home for nearly a month. Carolina will return to the friendly confines of the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on April 6 when the Tar Heels host Florida State at 2 p.m.
