Chapel Hill --- The University of North Carolina football and men's basketball teams play concurrently Saturday in an unusual "doubleheader," playing head to head for the first time in more than 25 years.
The 17th-ranked football team takes its 7-2 record to College Park, Md., to face the Maryland Terrapins. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised regionally by ABC and nationally by ESPN.
The top-ranked men's basketball team opens its 2008-09 regular-season against Penn at the Smith Center at 4 p.m. The men's basketball game will be televised by Fox Sports South.
The Tar Heel Sports Network will begin its live radio and internet broadcast of the football game at 2:30 p.m. Rick Steinbacher and Lee Pace will call the action from College Park.
The basketball broadcast, anchored by Jones Angell, Eric Montross and Brad Heller, will begin at 3 p.m. and may be heard live and free of charge at TarHeelBlue.com by clicking here.
The men's basketball broadcast will also be carried on a tape delay basis on Tar Heel Sports Network stations beginning Saturday at 8 p.m. (Some markets in the state will carry the basketball game live on a second radio station; check your local listings.)
Score updates from the football game will be shown on the Smith Center video boards during media timeouts. The finish of the football game will be shown on the video boards after the conclusion of the men's basketball game.
