This week at the PGA's Bay Hill Invitational, Jim "Bones" MacKay, caddy for Phil Mickelson, wore a badge on his collar with the name "Eve," in memory of slain North Carolina student body president Eve Carson.
According to golf channel reporters Kelly Tilgham and Nick Faldo, Bones had become friends with the Carson family while living in Athens, Ga. Among other things, Bones and the Carson family bonded over the band REM, which began in Athens. The badge was similar in shape and size to that currently adorned on the North Carolina men's basketball team uniform.
A celebration of Eve Carson's life will be held at the Smith Center on Tuesday, March 18. Gates open at 3 p.m.
