Heels Defeat Campbell In Fall Action

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina softball team won two more fall games this past weekend against Campbell to stay undefeated in the fall. Carolina defeated Campbell 8-6 and 6-1 last Friday. The twinbill was the first games of a busy weekend for Carolina softball, which also coincided with their alumni weekend.
In game one, Carolina used strong performances for two-time ACC player of the Year Danielle Spaulding and Stephanie Murad. Both players hit home runs in the game as Spaulding belted a two-run home run and Murad went 1-for-3 with a home run and RBI. Other top performers at plate were Dani Manko (1-for-2, two runs scored) and Ally Blake (3-for-3, two doubles). In the circle, senior Amber Johnson pitched three innings rendering two runs on three hits and three base on balls. Sophomore Constance Orr finished off the Camels behind a one run on two hits performance while striking out two in the final three innings.
In game two, the Tar Heels only allowed one run behind strong performances from Danielle Spaulding and Constance Orr in the circle. Spauling, 2009 NCAA Strikeout Champion, allowed zero runs on zero hits while fanning nine Camel batters. Orr, pitched again in relief, allowing one run on four hits. Dani Manko led the Tar Heel attack again in game two going 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored. Other top performers at the plate included Brittany Robinson (1-for-3, one RBI and one run scored) and freshman Chelsey Butler (1-for-3, one RBI and one run scored). Carolina finishes their fall campaign Friday October 9, with two games slated against UNC Greensboro.
