CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The 22nd-ranked UNC Tar Heels recorded their third straight 7-0 win on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Navy Midshipmen.
Carolina won every singles and doubles match played, extending their streak to 27 consecutive matches won. The Tar Heels have also won 45 consecutive singles and doubles sets.
Once again, Carolina set the pace by taking the team doubles point. Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman continued their outstanding doubles play as the eleventh-ranked team in the nation by defeating Nate Nelms and John Waters 8-2, and UNC's No. 2 and 3 doubles pairs chipped in wins to give Carolina a 1-0 advantage with singles ahead.
Brennan Boyajian then extended the North Carolina lead to two with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. The highly-touted freshman from Florida improved his season singles record to 8-1, one of the best marks on the team. Fogleman followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win of his own to put the Tar Heels one win away from clinching the match, and Clay Donato sealed Navy's fate with a straight sets win at No. 1 singles. Luke Mojica, Alex Rafiee and Andrew Crone all chipped in straight-sets wins of their own to make the final score 7-0.
