CONWAY, S.C. - Constance Orr's first career home run and a two-hit shutout by Lisa Norris paced No. 15 North Carolina to a 3-0 win over Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. Saturday night in the Coastal Carolina Tournament. Norris struck out 11 in her seven innings of work as the Tar Heels improved to 21-6 on the year and will take on No. 14 Missouri at 11 a.m. on Sunday to close out tournament play.
Breanna Brown reached on a one-out error in the first inning to start an early rally for the Tar Heels. The speedy Brown nabbed her eighth stolen base of the season to move into scoring position for Brittany McKinney who came up with a clutch single back up the middle to plate Brown and give Norris an early 1-0 advantage.
Norris kept the Chanticleers in check right away allowing just two hits over her seven innings of work. The Snellville, Ga., native did not allow a runner to reach third base in the contest as she improved to 10-4 on the year, reaching the double-digit win total for the fourth consecutive year.
Freshman Constance Orr gave Norris some breathing room in the sixth inning when she connected on her first career home run. Dani Manko led off the inning with an infield single before Orr blasted a pitch over the left field fence giving Carolina a 3-0 lead.
The Carolina defense rebounded from its two-error performance in the day's opening game against Missouri and turned in an error-free performance as Norris cruised through the Coastal Carolina lineup to pick up the victory.
Orr finished the day by going 2 for 3 at the dish with a run and a pair of RBIs. Sophomore Brittany McKinney picked up half the Tar Heel hits as she went 3 for 4 with an RBI in the win.
Carolina will look for revenge Sunday when they look to avenge a 9-6 loss to No. 14 Missouri when the Tar Heels battle the Tigers at 11 a.m.
