No. 15 Tar Heels Handle No. 21 Wake Forest, 6-1

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- No. 15 North Carolina won five of six singles matches to improve to 2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 6-1 win over No. 21 Wake Forest Saturday afternoon at Leighton Stadium. Sophomore Jelena Durisic set the tone in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Katarina Reveche at No. 5 after the Tar Heels captured the doubles point for the 13th time in 14 dual matches this spring.
UNC (10-4) captured the doubles point thanks to a pair of closely contested victories at the top of the lineup. After Wake Forest (8-4) was victorious at No. 3, No. 47 Austin Smith and Katrina Tsang dispatched Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis, 8-6, at No. 2. That set up a show down at No. 1 for the point, with No. 4 Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski outlasting No. 45 Sasha Kulikova and Sierra Poske, 9-7, to give Carolina the point.
Durisic's convincing win over Reveche at No. 5 made it 2-0 before Grabinski finished off Christian Tara at No. 4, 6-3, 6-1. With UNC on the brink of victory, Wake Forest got on the board courtesy of a 7-5, 6-3, win at No. 1 by No. 45 Kulikova.
No. 47 Marand clinched the win for the Tar Heels, however, as the Katy, Texas, junior rallied to defeat Poske in three sets, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-0. Senior Laura Reichert made it 5-1 with a 6-1, 6-3, win over Ryann Cutillo at No. 6.
Smith was the final Tar Heel to finish, coming from behind to beat Malvehy in three sets at No. 3, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Next up for UNC is a Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. Carolina will face East Carolina and Old Dominion on March 11.
