INDIANAPOLIS - Clay Donato and Taylor Fogleman were selected to play in the individual portion of the NCAA Championships on Wednesday after both posted excellent seasons in singles and doubles.
The pair received an at-large bid in doubles after finishing the season ranked just outside the top 16 at No. 17. Donato, who is ranked 32nd in singles, also got an at-large bid for that portion of the tournament, while Fogleman will serve as a singles alternate after finishing the year No. 63 in the nation.
The two posted a 31-8 record this year while playing together in doubles. In singles, Donato has recorded a 2008-09 mark of 24-9 while playing at the top spot. Fogleman has posted a 29-7 record after playing No. 2 singles for nearly every match of 2008-09. Both were selected for the All-ACC team.
This will be Donato's first time playing in the individual tournament, and Fogleman's second after participating in last year's doubles event.
UNC will play its first match in the team portion of the NCAA competition on May 8 against South Carolina.
