Campbell Coach Drew Peterson:
""First of all, hats off to Carolina. I thought they came out extremely focused, very ready to play. It was one of those times in sports where they got some momentum and they just could do no wrong. It seemed like every ball they hit went where it needed to go and even when we had opportunities to make plays something happened, just like the ball hitting the helmet of the runner when we were throwing home. They just came out hitting, they came out ready to play. Get behind like that and it's pretty much impossible to come back on a team of this quality."
On playing Friday
"We can play a lot better than we did today so we're looking forward to the challenge. I told the team, `Look this is just one game, you have to lose twice to get knocked out of this tournament.' We've gone on a lot of winning streaks this year, so if we can pull it together as a team we can do it again."
North Carolina Coach Donna J. Papa:
"I think today we really wanted to make a statement. We had been working the last couple of weeks on our hitting and we felt like we had really good swings but mentally we were taking ourselves out of our at-bats. We just tried to work a lot, this week especially, building up the girls' confidence and really talking to them about their mental approach up at the plate. We really wanted to make a statement, and we made a huge statement in the first inning.
"I thought we did a great job of being disciplined and patient and then we swung at good pitches and we had good results. Alyssa Francona, for example, she's kind of struggled all season and she's been hitting really well the last couple of weeks and seeing the ball, and it was great to see her get a home run and get some good results. Brittany Robinson - it's hard to sub for somebody, but I wanted her to get an at-bat, she comes in and gets a three-run homer,
"My vision was I wanted our team to start playing like we did in California (earlier in the season) - everybody was on all cylinders. They were on all cylinders today. I didn't think we'd score 16 runs in the first inning, but I was just hoping that we'd have quality at-bats and the girls would get some confidence with everything we`ve been working on and it could show some results and dividends from all the hard work we've put in."
