AKRON, Ohio - Former Tar Heel Lisa Norris joined the Akron Racers of the NPF not long after the Carolina softball team wrapped up their season and the Snellville, Ga., native is already making a big splash with her new team. Norris threw a perfect game less than a week ago in helping her Akron Racers past the Rockford Thunder.
Akron Racers' rookie Lisa Norris picked up her first professional victory in fine fashion. The former Tar Heel was perfect retiring all 21 batters she faced for a perfect game in her home debut, as the Racers (3-3) picked up the victory 4-0. Norris had control of the Thunder batters all night as she struck out four and got 12 more outs without the ball leaving the infield. Rockford (3-3) couldn't even find success bunting their way on base as they popped three bunt attempts up into the air.
Norris is no stranger to special pitching performances as she threw a no-hitter in 2009 against Cal State Fullerton and continues that success now at the professional level.
The Akron Racers pitching coach is former Tar Heel star pitcher Radara McHugh who left North Carolina as the program's career record holder for wins (88), appearances (150), starts (130), innings pitched (861.2), shutouts (46) and strikeouts (686).
The NPF announced at the beginning of the season a partnership with MLB.com to stream NPF games online throughout the 2009-10 season. Be sure to check out the link below to watch Norris in action.
