Tar Heels Continue Play At Kitty Harrison

CHAPEL HILL --- The North Carolina women's tennis team won five of six singles matches against Pepperdine to highlight day two of the Kitty Harrison Invitational Saturday at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels also scored a pair of doubles wins against opponents from Virginia and Pepperdine. Play in the annual event will conclude Sunday.
Lauren McHale and Shinann Featherston teamed up to defeated Hana Tomljanovic and Emily Fraser from Virginia, 8-5. Jennifer Stone and Gina Suarez-Malaguti added an 8-3 win over Caryssa Peretz and Marjorie Baker.
Against Pepperdine, the Tar Heels captured two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Tessa Lyons and Haley Hemm defeated Khunpak Issara and Andrea Oates, 8-4, while Stone and Lauren Slater did not drop a game in topping Megan Moore and Ali Walters, 8-0.
Featherston led the way in singles with a 6-3, 5-7, (10-8) victory over Anamika Bhargava. Suarez-Malaguti, McHale, Stone and Slater were also singles winners.
The Kitty Harrison Invitational concludes Sunday with UNC facing Vanderbilt in doubles and Georgia Tech in singles.
