Chicago Bandits Select Christine Knauer In National Pro Fastpitch Draft

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- University of North Carolina shortstop Christine Knauer was drafted by the Chicago Bandits on Wednesday evenening's (Feb. 10) National Pro Fastpitch Draft. Knauer was selected by the Bandits with the 16th overall selection.
The Chicago Bandits have won the regular season title the past two seasons. Chicago won 27 or 39 games last season.
Knauer, a senior from Long Island, N.Y,, is a two-year starter for the Tar Heels at shortstop. Last season, she batted .317 and converted on 27 of 28 stolen base attempts. Knauer is a lefty slap-hitter with plus speed to beat out infield hits.
A leader both on the field for the Tar Heels, Knauer received the highest honor from the Carolina Leadership Academy by being named a Leader of Distinction. She received the honor due to her work in the Veteran Leaders Program within the Carolina Leadership Academy. Veteran Leaders is designed to develop and enhance the leadership qualities of North Carolina athletes.
Knauer displays her leadership not only on the field, but also in the weight room. In 2008-09 she was named as the top-female Super Ram and Iron Ram for all Olympic Sports due to her hard work and dedication with the strength and conditioning staff. Along with those awards, she also received the Johnny Caroll Hustle Award and the Coach's Award (given to the player that most exemplifies Tar Heel Softball).
