No. 11 Carolina Upsets No. 10 Georgia, 5-2

MADISON, Wis. --- No. 11 North Carolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships with a 5-2 win over fourth-seeded Georgia Friday morning at the University of Wisconsin's Nielson Tennis Stadium. The win, Carolina's second over a top-10 opponent this season, sets up a quarterfinal matchup with fifth-seeded Baylor Saturday afternoon at 3:30 CT.
UNC (8-0) got on the board first, winning the doubles point for the eighth time in as many matches. The No. 22 duo of Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston were first off at No. 2, defeating Yvette Hyndman and Cameron Ellis, 8-4. Georgia (3-2) evened things up with a 9-7 win at the top position before No. 28 Jocelyn Ffriend and Haley Hemm clinched the point with an 8-5 win at No. 3.
The Bulldogs made it 1-1 with a victory at No. 2 singles, as No. 57 Nadja Gilchrist upended No. 25 Sanaz Marand, 6-4, 6-2.
It wouldn't stay tied for long, however, as Featherson continued her dominance at the No. 6 position with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Lara Fakhoury. Featherston is 7-0 in dual match play this season and has yet to lose a set.
Sophie Grabinski pushed the Tar Heels to the brink of victory with her 6-3, 6-4 win over Kaoko Ueshima at No. 4, and Jelena Durisic sealed the match with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Hyndman at No. 5.
Zoe De Bruycker gave Carolina its final point of the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5, while Tsang rallied but lost to No. 14 Chelsey Gullickson, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
"I thought we fought really hard," head coach Brian Kalbas said after the match. "Georgia is a great team and I was really impressed by how hard we played against an opponent of that caliber. Obviously we are thrilled to advance to the quarters and we're excited to get another chance to play Baylor."
