Tar Heel Fours Win At Lake Lure

LAKE LURE, N.C. - The fours led the way for the North Carolina rowing team as the Tar Heels took on West Virginia Friday afternoon on Lake Lure. Carolina's varsity four and novice four both won their races, while the Mountaineers took the varsity eight, second varsity eight and novice eight races.
The novice fours led off the day, with UNC finishing in 7:37.23 to West Virginia's 7:52.5. Next up was the novice eight, which the Mountaineers won with a time of 6:47.16 to UNC's 7:10.16. Check back soon for novice boat lineups.
The Tar Heel varsity four finished the course in 7:13.98, with West Virginia in 7:24.13. The Tar Heel lineup was Sarah Cook (coxswain), Kristi Roblin (stroke), Lindsay Paterniti, Toni Moran and Jasmine Dennis (bow).
The final two races of the afternoon went to the Mountaineers, with West Virginia finishing the second varsity eight in 6:22.75 and the varsity eight in 6:10.46. Carolina's second varsity eight lineup was Jennifer Nowicki (coxswain), Sefe Emokpae (stroke), Erin Berg, Alex Biggers, Liz Teel, Shelby Austin, Claire Wardius, Jessica Crumpler and Leah Kosow (bow). The Tar Heels' varsity eight was Emma Shaw (coxswain), Kelsey Grich (stroke), Alex McClelland, Megan McMullin, JoAnne Rogers, Sarah Day, Blair Meiggs, Andi Drabot and Brittany Walsh (bow).
Next up for the Tar Heels is the Knecht Cup, with racing next weekend, April 10-11, on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J.
"We had a short pratice week last week with our race schedule, so we're looking forward to the coming week to hammer out the things that we saw, our deficiencies from today," UNC coach Sarah Haney said. "But we feel like we're making progress in all the boats. We want to just keep working and looking forward to New Jersey next weekend."
