UNC Doubles Team Falls In NCAA Semifinals

ATHENS, GA. - After a brilliant run in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships, Clay Donato and Stefan Hardy of the University of North Carolina fell in the semifinals of doubles Sunday afternoon at Henry Feild Stadium on the University of Georgia campus. Donato and Hardy lost to second-ranked Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
This marked the second straight year that a Tar Heel doubles team has advanced to the NCAA semifinals. Donato combined with Taylor Fogleman to reach the semifinals a year ago.
Sandgren and Smith advance to the NCAA finals in doubles for the second successive year. Donato and Hardy won three matches in this year's tournament before fall to the Volunteer pair. In the second round, Donato and Hardy enjoyed an upset win over the nation's No. 3 team from USC.
