UNC Opens Up 2011 Season With Win Against Charlotte

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The North Carolina Tar Heels kicked off the 2011 regular season Sunday afternoon with a convincing 7-0 victory against the Charlotte 49ers.
The Tar Heels won all nine matches played, and won each of the six singles matches in straight sets.
The victory was the first for UNC with Assistant Coach Tripp Phillips filling in at the head coach position for Sam Paul. Paul's wife, Rebecca, gave birth to their first child, a girl, shortly before midnight on Saturday.
Stefan Hardy and Zach Hunter recorded North Carolina's first victory of the 2011 season in doubles, defeating Michael Anders and Charles Martin-LeCamp 8-3. UNC's Boyajian-Hernandez and Ahari-Parker pairings followed suit with victories of 8-4 and 8-3, respectively, to close out the doubles portion of the match.
The Tar Heels then reeled off six straight-sets singles victories to complete the 7-0 win. Some notable victories were 30th-ranked Jose Hernandez's 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Charles Martin-LeCamp at the top singles flight, a pair of 6-1, 6-0 victories for No. 90 Brennan Boyajian and Kyle Baker at the third and fifth spots, respectively, and a 6-0, 6-1 win for William Parker at the sixth flight.
UNC will travel to Athens, Georgia next for the first round of ITA Team Indoor Qualifying. Carolina will see their first ACC opponent of the season, Georgia Tech, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 29th.
