Happy fall everyone! I know it has technically been fall for a while now, but the cooler weather and recent Halloween festivities have really heightened the season! Since the last blog, we have worked steadily through our short individual sessions and intensely in the weight room. Every hitting session, the coaches have us working on drills that pertain to the parts in our swing that we need to work on the most. Each time we enter the cage, we get to pick through a sea of hitting toys--from Dora the inflated ball to the whip-it sticks. Kelsey and I even get to swing from on top of our wooden platforms! After working with our individual toys, we usually take front toss and then sometimes hit live off of our wonderful pitchers. During front toss, the coaches have us working on a series of three hits: grounders, line-drives and fly balls. The drill helps us control our at-bats.
In the weight room, Steve has been pushing us really hard both running and lifting. I honestly dread walking up the stairs to my classes! Our favorite drills are those where we compete as teams and race each other through ladders and over hurdles and sprint to the finish. We get really competitive and work that much harder to beat one another. After a long week, the team was excited for Halloween weekend! We were supposed to have our annual TPS team pumpkin carving contest on Friday, but it got moved until Monday giving each team more time to contemplate our ideas. The Rams really didn't need the extra time...just saying.
When Monday October, 31st, was finally upon us, the TPS teams were armed with our pumpkins and carving tools to create our masterpieces! However, no horror film, haunted house or grueling ghost could have prepared us for the monster lurking around the concourse during our contest. Clothed in all black and a hideous mask with glowing green eyes, Coach P appeared from the darkness to observe the contest. She had poor AJ, Coach Mick's son, crying in the corner! Just kidding, of course! She was a hoot and her and AJ's firefighter costumes made the competition that much more exciting. Needless to say the Rams took the victory...again (the pictures talk for themselves). That night, the team went to Amy, Jordan and Megan's house to get ready to walk along Franklin Street! The team had awesome costumes! Haleigh, Tisha, Elisha and I were power rangers and Kati, Lauren, Amber and Stephanie were the Cheetah girls, just to name a few. It was a great Halloween!
