CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Tar Heel student-athletes are involved in community outreach activities throughout the year, including a wide range of projects. Share Your Holidays is one effort that has become an annual tradition, with teams "adopting" families through Durham Social Services.
After final exams and before departing for the holiday break (or, in the case of football, heading for the Independence Bowl in Shreveport), student-athletes shopped for gifts for their families then wrapped and delivered the presents. This year, Tar Heels teamed up to adopt 14 families or individuals, with an emphasis on helping the elderly.
Additionally, the Tar Heel track and field teams threw a holiday party at the Durham Rescue Mission, bringing gifts and a Christmas tree for the residents, serving dinner and singing carols.
