CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Hours of hard work made for a fun and beneficial morning on Feb. 13, as UNC student-athletes who are part of Carolina Dreams put on the iBelieve in Love 5K. The race took place at the UNC Ranson-Hamrick Cross Country course.
"Our student-athletes who organized the race did a fabulous job," said Cricket Lane, UNC's Assistant A.D. for Student-Athlete Development. "Not only did the race raise funds for the IBell Foundation, but it helped boost awareness of Carolina Dreams and also provided a fun and healthy workout to everyone who came out to run or walk. The event was a great success by every measure."
The first-year event, which raised funds for the iBellieve Foundation, drew 209 registered runners and walkers. More than 300 people attended.
The overall race winner was Alex Varner of Carrboro, followed by Patrick Reaves and Reed Lyon, both of Durham.
On the women's side, the winner was Emma Shaw, followed by Carly Swanson and Marta Malmberg.

In addition to raising funds, the race gave Carolina student-athletes an opportunity to work with the North Carolina Children's Hospital, spend time with the children and their families, and raise awareness for Hunter Syndrome and other rare diseases.
