No. 24 Tar Heels Tripped By No. 23 Irish

NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The No. 24 North Carolina men's tennis team dropped its third straight match Sunday afternoon, losing 5-2 to No. 23 Notre Dame at the Irish's Eck Tennis Pavilion.
After starting the season strong in doubles, the Tar Heels have faltered of late and continued their slide Sunday. The Irish won both the second and third flight, clinching the point when No. 44 Stefan Hardy and Zach Hunter were upset by No. 51 Niall Fitzgerald and Spencer Talmadge at No. 2, 8-3. In the final doubles match at No. 3, William Parker and Cameron Ahari fell 8-3 to Casey Watt and Greg Andrews.
One positive for the Heels came at the start of the match when No. 20 Brennan Boyajian and Jose Hernandez defeated No. 28 Tyler Davis and Stephen Havens at No. 1, 8-4.
A lively start in singles saw the Tar Heels take the first set in four of the six matches. Unfortunately, No. 30 Hernandez was the only player able to capitalize on the fast start, winning 6-2, 6-4 over No. 77 Watt. His win at No. 1 singles, his fourth of the season, pulled one back for Tar Heels and made it 2-1 overall. Shortly after, however, the match was decided when a couple of successive Irish wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles sealed it.
North Carolina has a week off before facing No. 28 Vanderbilt on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. in Nashville.
