No. 3 Tar Heels Keep Rolling With Win At BC

WEYMOUTH, Mass. --- No. 3 North Carolina ran its winning streak to nine matches Sunday with a 5-2 win over No. 36 Boston College at the Weymouth Club. Carolina swept three doubles matches and got singles wins from Zoe De Bruycker, Shinann Featherston, Jelena Durisic and Lauren McHale to improve to 16-3 and a perfect 5-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
UNC dominated doubles play, dropping just eight games over the three matches. De Bruycker and McHale teamed up at the No. 1 position to top Erina Kikuchi and Veronica Corning, 8-3. On court two, Featherston and Gina Suarez-Malaguti scored an 8-4 win over Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev, while Durisic and Jennifer Stone rolled past Katarina Gajic and Katharine Attwell, 8-1.
In singles, the Tar Heels flex their muscles at the top of the lineup, getting wins at the first three positions to claim their fifth straight ACC road win to open the season.
De Bruycker rebounded from her loss Friday at Maryland with a 7-6 (6), 6-0 victory over Kelleher on court one. At the No. 2 position, Featherston won her fifth match in six, a dominating 6-2, 6-0 decision over Kikuchi.
Durisic improved to a perfect 5-0 in conference play, outlasting Gajic, 7-5, 6-1.
No. 108 McHale gave Carolina its final point, besting Khmylev in a third-set tiebreak, 6-3, 4-6, (10-8).
Boston College got its two wins on courts four and six from Corning and Attwell, respectively.
UNC now returns home for a five-match homestand beginning Saturday, April 2, against Virginia.
