All-America Hernandez Named Tar Heel Performer of the Week

Sophomore Jose Hernandez of the University of North Carolina men's tennis team has been named the Tar Heel Performer of the Week for May 24-30, 2011.
Hernandez completed a brilliant year by beating a pair of Top 30 opponents in the NCAA Championships and earning All-America honors in the process. Hernandez's NCAA run included a win over seventh-ranked Alexandre Lacroix of Florida before he lost a thrilling three-setter to defending champion Bradley Klahn of Stanford in the Round of 16.
A native of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Hernandez went 30-13 in his sophomore year, playing nearly half of his matches versus nationally-ranked opponents (11-9).

Laura Zimmerman had four goals and one assist while gathering two ground balls and causing a turnover in an 11-10 loss to eventual national champion Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament semifinals on Friday night in Stony Brook, N.Y.
