Hemm Claims Furman Fall Classic Title

GREENVILLE, S.C. --- Senior Haley Hemm's flight five singles title highlighted the final day of the Furman Fall Classic Sunday at Furman's Mickel Tennis Center. After winning a pair of matches on Saturday, Hemm led Alabama's Antonia Foehse 6-2, 1-0, before Foehse retired.
In addition to Hemm's title, junior Zoe De Bruycker defeated a pair of ranked opponents en route to finishing third in flight one. The Saratoga, Calif., All-America defeated No. 100 Jackie Wu of Vanderbilt, 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(1), in the opening round before knocking off No. 32 Keri Wong of Clemson, 6-1, 7-5, on Sunday.
Freshman Caroline Price posted an impressive flight three win over No. 80 Courtney McLane of Alabama, 6-1, 6-1, while Jennifer Stone defeated Vanderbilt's Megan Gornet in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to close out flight six.
Next up for Carolina is the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., beginning Oct. 1. De Bruycker will compete in the main draw of the singles event while being joined by Lauren McHale in the doubles qualifying draw. McHale is also in the singles prequalifying draw.
