"INSIDE COLLEGE ATHLETICS" PODCAST WITH BUBBA CUNNINGHAM: This week's guest was Dr. Dave Joyner, athletic director at Penn State, who discussed how Penn State is moving forward after the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
GENERAL NEWS: The Tar Heels fared well in the NCAA Graduation Success Rate information released by the NCAA on Thursday.
BASEBALL: Baseball America ranked Carolina's recruiting class fifth-best in the nation for 2013.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The Tar Heels played an exhibition game against Shaw University on Friday night and beat the Bears, 81-54 ... Watch highlights of the victory ... Here's Adam Lucas' column on the win and the possibilities for the regular season ... UNC is ranked No. 11 in the preseason Associated Press poll ... UP NEXT: Carolina will play its regular season opener on Friday Nov. 9 against Gardner-Webb.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Carolina beat Carson-Newman 106-29 in exhibition action on Sunday at Carmichael Arena ... UP NEXT: The Tar Heels will host Wingate in another exhibition outing on Thursday night at Carmichael.
CROSS COUNTRY: Carolina journeyed to the ACC Championships in Blacksburg, Va., on Saturday ... The UNC men finished sixth and the women were fifth ... UP NEXT: UNC will take part in NC State's Three Stripe Invitational in Raleigh on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY: The top-ranked Tar Heels closed the regular season on a tear and are now riding a 16-game winning streak ... On Friday, Carolina won 3-1 at Old Dominion ... On Sunday, UNC beat Radford 6-1 on Senior Day ... UP NEXT: Carolina will host the ACC Tournament this weekend at Henry Stadium, starting on Thursday ... The Tar Heels are the top seed and have a bye to Friday's 1 p.m. semifinal against the winner of the game between Boston College and Wake Forest.
FOOTBALL: Carolina hosted NC State on Saturday and beat the Wolfpack, 43-35, in a thriller on Giovani Bernard's punt return for a touchdown in the closing seconds ... Here's Turner Walston's take on the win ... Watch this video of Larry Fedora and Bernard's comments after the game ... UP NEXT: The Tar Heels have a bye next weekend and will return to action on Nov. 10 against Georgia Tech in Kenan Stadium.
MEN'S GOLF: The Tar Heels didn't play last week but begin play today at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas, Texas.
MEN'S SOCCER: The Tar Heels won their 12th game of the year, 3-0 over Campbell at home on Tuesday, posting their 11th shutout of the season ... Another game, another shutout as Carolina also won 2-0 at NC State on Friday ... UP NEXT: Senior Night is Thursday at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field as UNC will host Boston College ... ACC Tournament play begins at campus sites on Monday Nov. 5.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: Carolina closed out the regular season with a come-from-behind, 4-1 win at NC State on Thursday ... UNC was the No. 4 seed in the ACC Tournament and hosted No. 5 seed Virginia on Sunday but dropped a 1-0 decision to the Cavaliers ... UP NEXT: Carolina awaits an NCAA Tournament bid (first-round games begin on Nov. 10).
SWIMMING & DIVING: The men's team was ranked No. 9 in the first national poll of the season ...The Tar Heels started ACC play on Friday by hosting Virginia Tech and swept the Hokies in both men's and women's action ... UP NEXT: Carolina will host its annual Nike Cup event, starting on Nov. 15.
MEN'S TENNIS: Esben Hess-Olesen won the ITA Carolinas Regional singles championship on Monday. ... The Tar Heels also released their 2013 schedule.
WOMEN'S TENNIS: Carolina took part in the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional and Zoe De Bruycker reached the finals before losing ... UP NEXT: Carolina awaits word on a potential at-large and wild card selections to the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships to be held Nov. 8-11 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. ... That is also the weekend of the annual Kitty Harrison Invitational at UNC's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
VOLLEYBALL: The ACC has begun the second half of its round-robin regular season, and Carolina played a pair of road games at Duke and Wake Forest over the weekend ... On Friday, the Tar Heels beat the Blue Devils, 3-1, and on Sunday they beat the Demon Deacons, 3-0 ... Carolina has won six consecutive matches ... UP NEXT: Carolina will host Miami and Florida State next weekend in a pair of games to be streamed by ESPN3.
