No. 20 Carolina Takes Series Vs. Eagles

CHESNUT HILL, Ma.-- Logan Foulks hit a home run down the left field line in the second inning and Lori Spingola tossed a three-hit shutout as No. 20 North Carolina edged Boston College, 1-0, Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels improve to 13-4 in the ACC, 40-12 overall.
Ally Blake lined a two-out double off the wall in left field in the top of the first inning, but Boston College pitcher Morgan Kidd struck out Haleigh Dickey swinging, leaving Blake stranded at second base.
Nicole D'Argento led off the bottom half of the first with a double to right center field. Spingola induced two straight fly outs and stuck out Ali Lynnette-Krech to keep the game scoreless.
Logan Foulks led off the top of the second with a home run down the left field line to give the Tar Heels a 1-0 lead.
rittany Wilkins led off the bottom of the fourth frame with a single to the shortstop and Lynette-Krech laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her over to second base. Wilkins advanced to third base on a wild pitch. Spingola struck out the next two batter to keep the Eagles off the board.
Spingola (30-9) struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh. The sophomore from Atlanta, Ga., scattered three hits and tallied nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
The Tar Heels picked up their 40th win of the season, which marks the sixth time in the last seven years head coach Donna J. Papa's team has reach the 40-win plateau.
