Distance Shines At Hokie Invite, Day One

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The University of North Carolina track and field teams opened the Hokie Invitational with six first-place finishes, five of which were in the distance events.
Lianne Farber started the day with a win and a personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:27.61. Patrick Schellberg followed in the men's 3,000 race with a win and personal record of 8:04.47.
In the women's mile, Annie LeHardy ran a personal best 4:50.23 to take the win as Steve Magnuson took first in 4:15.84 for the men's mile.
Karley Rempel continued the distance excellence for the Tar Heels with a first-place finish, and another personal record, of 2:52.90 in the women's 1,000. Marisa Dobbins followed Rempel in second place with a personal best time of 2:52.95.
Jasmine Wilson qualified for the 60-meter hurdles final with her 8.83 race in the preliminary round and placed sixth in the final with a time of 8.78.
In field events, Briana Hudson placed second in the women's triple jump as she reached 41-11 ½ (12.79 meters). Avana Story continued her growth in the throwing events as she placed fourth in the women's weight throw with a length of 56-5 ¼ (17.20 meters).
Chadd Pierce won the men's unseeded pole vault, clearing a height of 15-11 (4.85 meters), which was 10 inches higher than second place. In a AJ Hicks placed third in the men's weight throw as he threw 61-2 (18.64 meters).
