Tar Heel Rundown: November 29
November 29, 2013 | General
Football
Nice gesture by the Tar Heels on a day they might have otherwise been enjoying not having classes...There's been a lot of talk about the youth emerging on the offense, but the same thing is true on the defense...Jeff Schoettmer's dad was a Blue Devil...The emergence of Ryan Switzer's and Carolina's improved play might go hand in hand...Really nice gesture by several players to visit the Burn Center as part of their Thanksgiving...
The Tar Heel coordinators provide some insight on Duke:
Here's what the Tar Heels will be wearing against Duke:

Tar Heels in the NFL
The Giants are hoping Hakeem Nicks can play Sunday...Bruce Carter had six tackles for the Cowboys yesterday...Ryan Taylor caught one pass for eight yards against Detroit.
Basketball
Marcus Paige by the numbers, with the caveat that these are only five games worth of numbers (for example, it seems a little silly to compare him to the Tar Heels who have averaged 20 ppg for an entire season just yet)...Interesting to hear Paige talk to his hometown paper about being a Tar Heel...If you went to the 100 years celebration, you might remember the name Nemo Nearman, who was one of the most bubbly veteran players there. Although it has absolutely nothing to do with basketball, here's a feature on Nemo from West Virginia...
Tar Heels in the NBA
John Henson ranked among the best second-year players in the NBA...If you're wondering why things have been difficult for Tyler Zeller and the Cavs this year, it's because their locker room is a mess...An update on the plans of Kendall Marshall, who has turned down offers in Europe and China and may join the NBDL...Wayne Ellington doesn't have a defined role in Dallas, but he's impressed the team, and he also had this impressive dunk on Wednesday:
Ed Davis had 11 points and seven rebounds against Boston Wednesday...23 points and four assists for Ty Lawson in Denver's win Wednesday...
Olympic sports
Volleyball swept Wake Forest on Wednesday, setting up a big match today against Duke...High national praise for the Carolina baseball recruiting class that will play this spring...The women's basketball team whipped Arkansas State in Cancun...Some pretty incredible perspective from Sylvia Hatchell in her Thanksgiving column...Here's the GoHeelsTV preview of tomorrow's NCAA quarterfinal between Carolina and UCLA:
Today's games
Women's basketball faces Arizona St. in Cancun at 1 p.m. Then, in a huge game in the ACC, volleyball plays at Duke at 3 p.m.
Today in Tar Heel history
Nov. 29, 2006: In a game that was just on our list of the best regular season wins of the Roy Williams era, No. 7 Carolina defeated No. 3 Ohio State, 98-89.
Long read
So what ends up happening to those individuals who are all over YouTube for a brief moment and then disappear? This story attempts to answer that question by focusing on a prep basketball star. Well worth the read.
