VanGelder To Join UNC Compliance Staff

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Marielle vanGelder has been named Associate Athletics Director for Compliance at the University of North Carolina, UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham announced Wednesday. VanGelder will begin in her new role on May 1.
At UNC, vanGelder will direct all aspects of the department's comprehensive compliance program. Her duties will include development of policies and procedures, implementation of rules education initiatives, supervision of all monitoring and auditing systems, and administration of UNC's grant-in-aid program.
"We're excited to welcome Marielle to our senior staff and we believe she will be an excellent addition to Carolina Athletics," Cunningham said. "We did a thorough search for the best person to fill this position. Marielle is a leader in collegiate athletics and specifically in the field of compliance. We look forward to having her become a Tar Heel."
VanGelder has spent the past 10 years working in compliance at the University of Connecticut and currently serves as Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Rules Education and Compliance Services. In that role, she coordinates and oversees recruiting, financial aid, academic eligibility certification and rules education, among other responsibilities.
VanGelder is a 2001 graduate of the University of New Haven, where she was a member of the varsity women's soccer team. She earned a master's degree in kinesiology from UConn in 2004.
