TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - No. 1 seed and host team Florida State knocked out North Carolina with a 3-0 shutout Friday afternoon in the semifinals of the 2013 ACC Tournament.
Lori Spingola tossed a solid game for the Tar Heels (39-19), striking out eight while giving up only four hits and three walks. Amber Parrish and Constance Orr each tallied a hit for UNC.
After two scoreless innings, Florida State got on the board in the third as Alex Kossof reached base and advanced to second on a Tar Heel error, advancing to third and then scoring on another Carolina fault when Victoria East singled to center.
UNC escaped Seminole loaded bases in the fourth, but FSU tacked on two more runs in the fifth to secure the win. Courtney Senas reached base on a fielder's choice before Maddie O'Brien hit a two-run shot to right center for what would be the final runs of the game.
The Tar Heels will now wait to hear if they'll earn their 11th NCAA bid. The 2013 NCAA softball selection show will be Sunday at 10 p.m. on ESPNU.
