Football
We have two ways for you to get ready for the game tomorrow. First: the very serious, which includes insight from Carolina's coordinators and is the perfect pregame wisdom for those who know and love the game:
And then there's this, which is...the opposite of the above. But it's a lot of fun.
ESPN's analysts give their picks for the weekend...There's been a good bit of talk about the Georgia Tech passing game, but not as much on the people catching those passes. DeAndre Smelter is a player the Tar Heels must watch...Tech quarterback Vad Lee rooted for Carolina growing up. That's never good...Here's the uniform combination for this week, plus an interesting explanation for the choice:

The Final Four bid process for 2017-20 is underway (Dallas 2014, Indy 2015, Houston 2016). Venues must host a minimum of 60,000 fans, so you're not exactly going to see a lot of new blood on the list. Remember that the new no-dome guideline (which is a good thing) applies only to rounds before the Final Four...Tickets are on sale now for Roy Williams' Fast Break Against Cancer breakfast, which will be held Oct. 25 on the floor of the Smith Center...Season in review story on Jackson Simmons, with a really fun look back at the behind the scenes video from the win at FSU.
Olympic sports
You can catch men's soccer at Virginia Tech tonight on ESPN3...If you're local and need a Tar Heel fix, head out to volleyball tonight for a top-20 matchup...Kyle Seager has played in 106 straight games for the Mariners.

Tar Heels in the NFL
Coming off a two-TD performance, Bengals offensive coordinator says Gio Bernard's workload will increase...Hakeem Nicks is looking forward to his homecoming game in Charlotte this weekend and has requested over 20 tickets...Shaun Draughn is learning the Ravens' playbook, and the story includes the interesting note that Draughn negotiated his one-year, $480,000 contract himself.
Today in Tar Heel history
Sept. 20, 1986: In a road trip to an unusual nonconference opponent, Dick Crum's Tar Heels took a 10-10 tie with those unfamiliar...Florida State Seminoles. The game is perhaps best remembered for Derrick Fenner crashing into Crum on the sidelines, causing the head coach to suffer a broken leg. Crum watched the second half of the game from the Tar Heel bench.
Long read
We all seemingly know the names and back stories of every prep basketball prospect by the time they enroll. But what happens after they leave college, and leave basketball? Sometimes, it's not pretty. This is a very good profile of Korleone Young, who was supposed to be the next big thing, but wasn't.
