Tar Heels Enjoy Tailgate
October 13, 2014 | Carolina Outreach
On Sept. 25, UNC student-athletes joined residents of The Cedars of Chapel Hill for a night of food, fun and fellowship at a Cedars Tailgate hosted by the continuing care retirement community, located in Meadowmont Village. Student-athletes from the men's lacrosse, softball, track & field, and rowing teams spent time playing games and sharing stories with the residents.
"The Cedars Tailgate was a great opportunity to reach out to a different part of the Carolina community," said Elly Wagner, a junior on the softball team who is majoring in business. "The senior citizens were so excited to see us and share their stories. I learned a lot from simply listening to some of their experiences. It was a great time to socialize with fellow athletes and a group of Carolina fans."
The Cedars residents enjoyed the experience, too. "(The student-athletes) were all very outgoing and had no qualms about sitting down with our members to have a conversation," said Ashley Beale, Director of Social Services for the Cedars of Chapel Hill. "Of course our members just adored them. It really made the party a success!"
