The sophomore diver from Alpharetta, Ga. finished in 16th place in the three-meter dive event at the NCAA Championships last season, earning honorable mention All-America honors. Last month, he finished fifth in three-meter and 10th in one-meter at Summer Nationals. Nyquist had a breakout freshman campaign on the diving board for the Tar Heels and his experience on the national level at such an early stage in his career should prove valuable as he aims to consistently score points for the Tar Heels in 2014.
The junior backstroke and freestyle specialist (see feature in this issue) is one of Carolina's most experienced returning swimmers. Graesser has dual U.S. and German citizenship, and he was recently named to the German National Team for the European Championships where he captured fourth in the 50-meter backstroke. Graesser ranks second in school history in the 100-yard backstroke, and his ability to build upon his international success will be crucial to help the team score points in tough dual matches this season.
The junior swimmer from Alpharetta, Ga. finished in 11th in the 100-yard butterfly at the NCAA Championships last season, earning honorable mention All-America honors. Lewis played a vital role on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished in 4th at the ACCs, and his 45.99 time in the 100-yard butterfly is Carolina's second best time in school history. Look for Lewis to improve upon his breakout sophomore year and challenge for a national placement in the 100-yard butterfly this season.
Patrick Meyers
Senior Patrick Meyers is a co-captain for the Tar Heels this season. The Norfolk, Mass. native is a versatile swimmer who specializes in the 200-yard backstroke where he finished fourth with a time of 1:42.91 at the ACC Championships last season. Meyers' leadership both by example and vocally will be crucial for Carolina's chance to compete for a conference title this year.
