Tar Heel Rundown: February 11
February 11, 2014 | General
Basketball
Good Q&A with Marcus Paige...See any of your favorite moments in this historical photo gallery of UNC-Duke images?...Tar Heel freshmen are looking forward to their first exposure to the rivalry...It's not just Duke week, it's also Pitt week, which makes this a very important six days for the Tar Heels...Find it a little humorous that the SEC is complaining about 8 p.m. tip-off times being "too late." Try 9 p.m. or later and then get back to us...Yes, yes, it's early, but here's a couple of NCAA bracket predictions, one with the Tar Heels in St. Louis and another with Carolina in Orlando...This is an ESPN Insider story, but if you have access it's another writer pointing out Carolina needs to cut down on the fouling.
Tar Heels in the NBA
Interesting to see the admirable role Jerry Stackhouse is playing with students (and he says his dream job would be to coach the Tar Heels)...Kendall Marshall continues to lead the NBA in three-point shooting percentage. Some good quotes on how he's doing it, and the fact that he has turned a supposed weakness into a strength...Ty Lawson is out until after the All-Star break with an injury...
Twelve points and six rebounds for Tyler Hansbrough in 15 minutes...16 points and three rebounds for John Henson...11 points for Harrison Barnes.
Football
Good luck to trainer Scott Trulock in his move to the Jacksonville Jaguars...A post-signing day top 25 at ESPN.com has Carolina 16th for 2014...Two new assistant coaching hires are official.
Olympic sports
Gigantic win for the women's basketball team at Duke...Photo of the night, by far, was taken by Grant Halverson of the evening's brightest star, Diamond DeShields:
Via Grant Halverson, this shot of @DDeShields23 yawning in front of spirit fingers is an all-timer. DeShields had 30. pic.twitter.com/B8ELOz9sI2

Some preseason All-America recognition for baseball's Landon Lassiter...
Today's games
Women's golf is in Palos Verdes, Calif. for the Notrhrop Grumman Challenge. Softball is hosting Campbell at 4 p.m., and wrestling hosts Duke at 7 p.m. on ESPN3.
Today in Tar Heel History
Feb. 11, 1988: Sixth-ranked Carolina went to overtime to beat 16th-ranked NC State, 75-73, at the Smith Center. The Wolfpack tied the game with a frantic late rally, but J.R. Reid and Scott Williams (13 points each for the game) were big in overtime.
Long read
Carolina's been at the same NCAA Tournament site with Marquette a couple times in the Roy Williams era, and Marquette's head coach, Buzz Williams, always comes across as a very normal guy. This terrific story makes him seem even more likeable.
