Tar Heel Rundown: February 17
February 17, 2014 | General
Basketball
Roy Williams catches some occasional heat for not calling timeouts, but in a two-possession game, two timeouts he did call against Pitt were very important...Some observers think Saturday's win was Carolina's first "good" ACC win...Fans submitted questions for the players after the win over Pitt, and the best answers are here...If you only have time for one highlight from the win, it's this one:
By the way, here's another person who enjoyed Tokoto's dunk: Tar Heel signee Theo Pinson. You can spot him in this photo just over Tokoto's right shoulder:
I got crazy hype after @AirPierreTokoto dunk yesterday!😂😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/kQ3webmOaW

Here's the full highlights:
CBS did a really good job with this documentary on Roy Williams...Some great quotes and memories of Dean Smith from Kevin Salvadori and Dante Calabria in this look back at their journeys from the Pittsburgh area to UNC...Colossal oversight not to link this earlier, but C.B. McGrath is on this list of top 100 sexiest men in college basketball, where he is joined by Tar Heels Buzz Peterson and King Rice.
Tar Heels in the NBA
Harrison Barnes, who was in the dunk contest Saturday night but didn't win, is starting to find his groove with the Warriors...With the trade deadline Thursday, Golden State is getting some calls about Barnes, but does not intend to trade him...Fun look back at how Vince Carter's world changed after the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest...An in-depth look at Kendall Marshall's (crazy) assist numbers for the Lakers...What happens when the UNC-Duke rivalry moves to the pros, with quotes from Jamison, Marshall, Bullock, etc.
Football
Good story on the father-son relationship between Tar Heel signee Austin Proehl and former Wake receiver/current Panthers assistant coach Ricky Proehl...Eric Ebron ranked the top tight end available in this year's draft...Giovani Bernard highlights show up at the 1:15 mark in this trailer:
Olympic sports
Diamond DeShields capped a sensational week with a career high 38 points in a win at No. 10 NC State...More on DeShields' great performance...Women's lacrosse whipped Boston University...The gymnasts finished third in Raleigh...Men's lax thumped Manhattan...Baseball rebounded from a loss on Saturday to rout College of Charleston, 12-3, on Sunday.
Today's games
Baseball concludes the series at College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Men's basketball visits Florida State at 7 p.m. on ESPN (and online on WatchESPN).
Today in Tar Heel history
Happy 51st birthday to the greatest of all time, Michael Jordan. No better way to celebrate than with a highlight video of UNC-era Jordan:
Long read
We still tend to think of Boston College as ACC "newcomers," but have enjoyed getting to know some of the folks from Chestnut Hill. One of the best was Dick Kelley, the longtime BC basketball sports information director who was known as "the distinguished gentleman" to the Carolina hoops traveling party for the way he conducted himself. After a battle with ALS, Kelley passed away on Thursday night. It's worth reading about his contributions to the Eagles, and we hope the ACC will do something to memorialize him at this year's ACC Tournament.
