Tar Heels Set To Play In Hawaii Invitational

HONOLULU - After arriving in Hawaii Tuesday night, Carolina softball is looking forward to a big week ahead as the Tar Heels will spend two days practicing and visiting local sites before competing in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational Friday through Sunday.
UNC will face San Jose State, St. Mary's and Hawaii this weekend at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium in Honolulu.

Kristen Brown has six RBIs and four runs on five hits, including three homers, and Kati Causey has five RBIs on five hits, two of which were home runs. Lori Spingola is 2-4 in the circle, fanning 27 batters in 29.2 innings pitched. The Tar Heels (2-5) last played on Tuesday when they dropped a 9-3 game to Cal State Fullerton.
Scouting the Opponents
San Jose State: The Spartans are 7-3 coming into the tournament, led by Jessie Hufstetler who is batting .548 with eight RBIs and 13 runs on 17 hits. Sharon-Rena Estrada (.409) has nine RBIs on nine hits, while Alyssa Martinez has eight RBIs with 10 hits and 11 runs scored while batting .357. Allison Lang is 5-1 with 19 strikeouts in 28 innings.
St. Mary's: Brittany Sabatini (.342) leads the Gaels (4-6) with 13 hits and six runs, and Erica Musgrave has four RBIs and seven runs on 10 hits while batting .323. Sarah Lira leads St. Mary's pitchers with a 4-2 record and 1.75 ERA, striking out eight in 32 innings. The Gaels topped California and South Dakota this past week.
Hawaii: The Rainbow Wahine are 7-4 after going 4-2 at the Easton Desert Classic in Las Vegas, beating UTEP, Seattle, Portland State and Utah while dropping games to No. 1 Florida and Nevada. Alyssa Villalpando leads Hawaii with 11 RBIs and 12 hits while batting .522, and Li'ili'I Leisha (.379) has 12 RBIs and 11 hits with five home runs. Heather Morales (3.88 ERA) is 4-2 with 23 strikeouts in 39.2 innings in the circle, and Loie Kesterson is 3-2 (5.19 ERA) with 14 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched.
