North Carolina (11-3, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) lost the doubles point to the Blue Devils for the second time this season. Fifth-ranked Caroline Price and Whitney Kay lost 8-6 at #2 singles.
No. 9 Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter evened the doubles competition with an 8-6 win, however, Carolina's 32nd-ranked duo of Kate Vialle and Laura Slater was edged 8-5 to surrender the doubles point.
Carter, ranked sixth in singles nationally, evened the match 1-1 with a 6-0, 6-1, win over Chalena Scholl.
Duke (11-1, 4-0 ACC) rallied back to win on courts six, four and three to clinch the match and lead, 5-1.
All that was left was the battle of the top two ranked players in the nation on court one. #1 Jamie Loeb earned a come-from-behind, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 over #2 Beatrice Capra, who is one of only two players to beat Loeb this season.
Carolina visits Virginia next Saturday at 11 a.m., and Virginia Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.
