Henderson Falls In NCAA Semifinals
March 22, 2014 | Wrestling
Carter, the ACC champion, took control of the match in the first period. After a takedown and escape made it 2-1, Carter took down Henderson again and quickly got a five count for three back points. Henderson fought for an extended amount of time to avoid the pinfall, but it was 7-1 after one period.
The New Florence, Pa., junior got two escapes in the second but was never able to get in on Carter, who led 9-3 after two and rode out the third for a major decision.
In the afternoon session, Christian Barber and John Michael Staudenmayer were eliminated from the consolation draws. Barber lost a tight bout to James English of Penn State, 3-1, at 149, while Staudenmayer fell to Dylan Palacio of Cornell 5-2 at 165.
Henderson will return to the mat Saturday morning against Northern Iowa's Joey Lazor.
