SECU Family House BBQ & Golf Tournament
March 31, 2014 | General
Thursday's barbecue at SECU Family House starts at 5:30 p.m. and offers family-friendly activities and a live auction. Tickets are available to the general public and cost $75 per ticket or $200 for a package of four tickets, and children ages 12 and under accompanied by an adult may attend free of charge. Guests will enjoy food provided by Chapel Hill Restaurant Group, live music by Liquid Pleasure, family activities coordinated by Kidzu, and exciting raffle prizes and live auction items.
Family House expects a sellout crowd of UNC coaches, Carolina alumni, Family House guests, Chapel Hill community members, and volunteers. Jones Angell, Voice of the Tar Heels, will emcee the event, and special guest Woody Durham will lead the auction.
Up for grabs in the auction will be a private performance by singing sensations Liquid Pleasure (valued at $15,000), an amethyst necklace, a catered meal by Bubba's Fish Fry, a week at Kiawah island with golf included, and a surprise item from Williams. Attendees can buy chances for a 50/50 raffle (you can split the pot with the House), a sports basket, a UNC gift basket, a 3-liter bottle of wine valued at $1,000, and tickets to athletic events.
Purchase your tickets online at www.secufamilyhouse.org or by calling Kathy at 919-932-8004.
On Friday, 32 golf foursomes will take to UNC's Finley Golf Course to compete for prizes. The golf tournament is sold out, though you can request to be added to a waiting list to participate by contacting Yvonne Knutson at 919-932-8001.
All proceeds from this event benefit SECU Family House at UNC Hospitals, a 40-bedroom hospitality house that provides an affordable, safe, nurturing home away from home for seriously ill adult patients and family members. At SECU Family House, every gift of $82 covers the cost of lodging and food for a family for one night.
Last year, more than 2,200 patients or caregivers found shelter at Family House, and nearly 3,000 more relied on Family House to help secure discounted rates at local hotels when the house was full. To date, SECU Family House has provided more than 147,000 guest stays, supporting more than 10,000 patients from all 100 of North Carolina's, as well as 35 other states and seven other countries.
