Football
This is an Insider story, but it just had to be linked because of the absurdity. It's a projection of the preseason AP football poll. That's right--it's a projection of a projection of the 2014 season. Not of how the teams will actually finish, but how voters project they will finish. Anyway, Carolina is picked 23rd...In addition to a fantastic weather forecast for Saturday's spring game, there will also be a reunion of football lettermen...Turner Walston on the Tar Heel quarterback competition...This looks like it could be a fun story: WRAL's Mandy Mitchell was out at practice yesterday learning how to catch punts. The story airs Friday:

The wide receivers got ready for yesterday's practice with the Cha Cha Slide. And yes, that's Gunter Brewer in the middle:
Larry Fedora and Landon Turner didn't dance (at least not that was captured on video), but they did meet the media afterwards:
Olympic sports
Coastal Carolina grabbed a 3-2 win at Boshamer Stadium. Some struggles with fundamentals were a problem...The Diamond Heels have the third-most alums in the major leagues of any team in America, and the most in the ACC...Ten members of the swim team are on the All-ACC Academic squad...Tar Heel alum (and former Tar Heel of the Year, which of course is the most coveted award of her career) Shalane Flanagan will be featured on 60 Minutes this Sunday.
Today's games
None.
Tar Heels in MLB
Andrew Miller threw an inning and got his first win of the season for Boston...Adam Warren pitched a scoreless two-thirds for the Yankees...Brian Roberts had a walk and drove in a run.
Long read
Watching any of the NCAA tournament, it was hard not to be at least tangentially aware of Lacey Holsworth. But even if you never read the details of the story of the 8-year-old girl who had been befriended by the Michigan State basketball team, yesterday's news that Lacey had passed away was a blow. This collection of reactions from Spartan players and coaches and people throughout college basketball is impressive. That last photo of her with Adrien Payne and the Big Ten championship net--wow. This SportsCenter piece on the same subject is wrenching.
