CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams both earned impressive academic honors Thursday from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Both squads were named Scholar All-America teams for the spring 2014 semester. Nike Swim supports the CSCAA Scholar All-Award awards.
The Team Scholar All America Award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the semester. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and again in the spring to recognize teams achieving a 3.0 in the semester coinciding with the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CCCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
North Carolina head coach Rich DeSelm's men's team qualified for the accolade with a cumulative team grade point average of 3.05 this past spring. The Tar Heel women's team made itself eligible for the award with a team GPA of 3.17.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America. The CSCAA is dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
