RALEIGH, N.C. --The No. 1-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team easily handled No. 69 NC State, 7-0, on Thursday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Center.

This was the Tar Heels' first match since bringing home the ITA National Team Indoor Championship for the second time in three years.

North Carolina (10-0, 1-0 ACC) struck first in doubles and did not look back.

The #19 duo of Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay cruised to an 8-1 victory over Liza Fieldsend and Natalia Janowicz.

Ashley Dai and Kate Vialle, the #24 duo, clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 victory over Nicole Martinez and Sophie Nelson.

#18 Carter was also first to finish in her singles matches, winning 6-3, 6-1 on Court 2 against Liza Fieldsend.

#53 Whitney Kay continued her hot play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Nicole Martinez on Court 4.

#21 Caroline Price, the lone senior on the team, rolled to 6-1, 6-3 victory against Elisha Hande on Court 3 to make it a 4-0 match.

#5 Jamie Loeb powered past #84 Joanna Nalborska in a 6-1, 6-3 win.

Kate Vialle pushed the score to 6-0 after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Natalia Janowicz.

#66 Ashley Dai battled past Sophie Nelson for a 7-5, 6-2 victory to sweep the Pack.

NC State falls to 5-2 overall, 0-1 in ACC play.

The Tar Heels will be back in action on Sunday when they face Michigan in Ann Arbor at 12:00 p.m.
