Summers Elected Student Body President

CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina track and field student-athlete Houston Summers was elected student body president Wednesday night. Summers earned 64.8% of the vote. For more on the election click here.
Summers throws the javelin on the track and field team. He has qualified for two straight NCAA East Prelims in the javelin and owns a personal record of 222 feet, five inches (67.97 meters) and earned All-ACC honors for taking second in the javelin at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships last year.
Summers is also a dedicated student. He has earned All-ACC Academic honors and USTFCCCA All-Academic honors each year he has competed and was also named to the Capital One Division I Academic All-District track and field/cross country teams.
Before attending UNC, Summers was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005 and played minor league baseball for six years, mostly in the St. Louis Cardinals' organization. He was called up to the majors in 2010 for the Cardinals but didn't appear in a game.
