Tar Heels Take Two Firsts At Occoquan Sprints

UNC's second varsity eight and novice eight both won their finals on Sunday as the North Carolina rowing team raced for the second day in a row, this time at the Occoquan Sprints in Occoquan, Va.
The Tar Heels took on Georgetown and West Virginia in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.
On Sunday on the Occoquan Reservoir, the Carolina 2V8 raced only in a final and won that in 7:19.24, beating Clemson and George Washington.
The UNC novice eight won its heat to advance to the final, where it took first. UNC's B boat was second in its heat and finished fourth in the final. Carolina's A boat crossed in 7:29.90, with two Bucknell boats finishing before the UNC B boat in 7:58.88.
The UNC varsity four was third in its final in 8:48.84, behind two Clemson boats.
The varsity eight took sixth in 7:25.59. The Tar Heels placed third in their heat in 7:38.30
The novice four was second in its heat in 8:50.98, behind Bucknell. There was no final in that event, but UNC's time was the second fastest out of 14 crews racing in three separate heats.
The event also included men's crews. UNC's club team took first in the 2V8 and novice 8 and second in the varsity eight.
The Tar Heels have next weekend off from racing then head for the Knecht Cup April 11-12 in Cherry Hill, N.J. They'll return to the Occoquan Reservior the following weekend to take on Delaware, George Mason and George Washington.
