Rammy Awards Show Set For April 20

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - UNC Athletics will host the third-annual Rammy Awards on Monday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at Carmichael Arena. The event will honor student-athletes who excelled athletically and academically during the 2014-15 school year. In addition to awards, the program will include student-athlete performances as well as video presentations.
Emceed by Jones Angell, the Voice of the Tar Heels, the Rammys will honor student-athletes in the following categories:
• Most Outstanding Championship Performance
• Most Outstanding Play
• Best Upset
• Best Breakthrough Athlete - Male
• Best Breakthrough Athlete – Female
• Best Record-Breaking Performance
• Most Outstanding Newcomer – Male
• Most Outstanding Newcomer – Female
• Male Athlete of the Year
• Female Athlete of the Year
• Most Outstanding Team
UNC will also present the Ultimate Team Award to student-athletes who excel in all areas of academics, athletics and service. The captains of the Ultimate Team Award will win the Mildred McCaskill Award, one of Carolina's longstanding honors.
Another traditional award presented Monday evening is the John Lotz Award, which recognizes a student-athlete who best exemplifies the spirit of the late John Lotz. Lotz served as UNC's Assistant Athletic Director of Campus and Community Relations and also was an assistant basketball coach for the Tar Heels. Winners have succeeded under adverse circumstances, overcoming difficulties while maintaining a positive attitude.
A Rammy will also be presented to the top male and female senior scholar-athlete.
Student-athletes from all 28 Carolina varsity squads will be in attendance along with UNC campus administrative staff, coaches, athletic department staff, Rams Club members, the UNC Marching Tar Heels band, members of the spirit squads and other supporters.
