Schneider Earns NCAA First Round Victory

WACO, TEXAS -? University of North Carolina sophomore Ronnie Schneider won his first round match Wednesday in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship while fellow sophomore Brayden Schnur unfortunately had to retire in the opening set of his match.
In a matchup of Indiana natives, Schneider, from Bloomington, defeated Nick Chappell of TCU (Indianapolis, ind.) in the opeing round by a score of 6-2, 7-5.? Schneider fell behind 0-2 in the opening set but rallied to win six straight games to earn the set.? Schneider is 28th in the ITA rankings with Chappell was ranked 49th.
Brayden Schnur, of Pickering, Ontario, drew 39th-ranked Felipe Soares of Texas Tech in the first round.? Schnur was leading 3-2 in the opening set when he had to retire due to a foot injury.
Schneider will now play in the Round of 32 Thursday against Lloyd Glasspool of the University of Texas.? Glasspool is ranked 42nd by the ITA.? He advanced with a 6-0, 6-2 upset of third-seeded McKenzie McDonald Wednesday.
