Howard, Overstreet Earn Academic All-District Honors

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Two North Carolina student-athletes have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 team for women's track & field and cross country, announced on Friday. Senior Cameron Overstreet and junior Sarah Howard were named to the 11-member team.
The honor recognizes outstanding academic and athletic performance during the 2014-15 school year. UNC and the University of Tennessee were the only schools to put more than one person on the team, which draws from all Division I schools in North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Nominees must have at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average.
Howard, from Dublin, Ga., is a rising senior who is working toward a double major in biology and religious studies. She was named to the Academic All-District team for the second year. Howard ranks second in school history in the shot put and has earned All-ACC, All-ACC Academic and second-team All-America honors. She placed second in the shot at ACC Outdoor Championships May 14-16.
Overstreet, from Mechanicsville, Va., graduated from UNC this month with a major in exercise and sport science and minors in anthropology and Spanish for the medical professions. She holds the school record in pole vault and has earned All-ACC, All-ACC Academic and second-team All-America honors. This year she has been honored with an ACC postgraduate scholarship and also recognized as the top student-athlete in her major.
